Crossplay question ps4/ps5

I would like to know can ps5 and ps4 play multi-player on fs19?
I understand there is no crossplay between (say) pc and console or sony/Xbox...
But what about ps4 to ps5 only?
After DL all my friends mods, I couldn't see his game in the list, (any region) he was able to send me an invite and it attempts to join but fails with a generic error message.
Just want to know if I'm wasting our time?
