Grain Silos

Post by jeremyj621 »

I'm curious whether or not real-life grain silos can hold more than one type of grain. Can dividers be placed inside to keep the different types of grain separate, or do you need a silo for each type of grain you wish to store?

Thanks for the reply, Drmattymd. That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. Checking manufacturers of grain silos, I see them mention "number of rings," which I thought meant dividers as they don't explain what that means. So what does "number of rings" mean for grain silos? Here's an example from GSI's website: http://www.grainsystems.com/products/st ... -bins.html.

After reading a b r o c h u r e for GSI's grain bins, I found out "number of rings" refers to the number of wind rings which are placed around the outside of a grain silo, offering structural strength for increased load capacity.
